DTE Work Slated to Reduce Outages in Grosse Pointe Woods

DTE is planning to begin tree trimming the first week of April in the neighborhood plagued by outages as one measure to help reduce power outages.

Beginning in the first week of April, DTE has contracted tree trimming services with Davey Tree Company as one initiative officials believe will help reduce the number of outages.

Additionally, DTE is investing $1 million into the Grosse Pointe area, according to information shared with Grosse Pointe Woods City Administrator Al Fincham.

Residents in the neighborhood surrounded by Mack, Brys, Vernier and Marter are expected to receive a letter from DTE alerting them of the upcoming tree trimming.

The trimming calls for trees to be reduced to create a 10-foot clearance between the trees and any DTE equipment, according to Fincham.

Trimmimg will continue throughout the Woods until the whole city is finished but the neighborhood plagued by repeated and lengthy outages will be completed first.

Dozens of residents attended a meeting in mid-September with city and DTE officials regarding the problems during which many shared their disgust with the lack of consistent power and emphasized their frustrations.

At the very end of the meeting, then soon-to-be-retiring DTE representative Joe Cazeno announced the area would be upgraded to a higher level of concern for the company.

Fincham said Cazeno's replacement, Kathy Jordan, has been responsive to the city generally but also related to specific outages.
