Farms Council, Unions Approve 3-year Contract

Unionized employees of Grosse Pointe Farms and the council reached an agreement in collective bargaining as the council unanimously approved the new contract Monday.

The city council unanimously approved a contract Monday  for municipal employees belonging to three unions. The contract is slated to begin July 1 and will continue through June 30, 2015.

The contract calls for employees to not receive any wage increases but does allow for an annual bonus that will equal less than one percent of payroll. It also increases the cost of copays for prescription drugs, for which generics are encouraged.

City Manager Shane Reeside said the unions ratified the new contract Monday before the council entered its closed session to discuss collective bargaining. After council returned to open session, they voted unanimously to approve the new contract.
