Farms Reaches Settlement Agreement with CCD

Details of the agreement were shared with the Grosse Pointe Farms city council Monday but will not be available to the public for a few more days.

has reached an agreement with the related to a dispute regarding the private club's property tax assessment, Farms city attorney William Burgess announced Monday during the council meeting.

The Grosse Pointe Farms council went into a closed session Monday night so Burgess could provide details about a settlement reached between the city and the private golf club. They returned to open session to make their decision known but did not release any details.

Burgess announced that the settlement had been reached and said the paperwork would be available to the public within a few days. Council then adjourned.

When Burgess was asked about details afterward, he said he did not know for years the assessement was in dispute and declined to release any details, including the settlement amount. The agreement is awaiting the signature of a Country Club of Detroit representative, Burgess and councilman Louis Theros said.

According to the Michigan Tax Tribunal, the private club had two cases against the Farms. One related to 2003 and one related to 2006. The 2003 case was closed Dec. 16 following a modified judgement, according to its docket.

The 2006 case was suspended Dec. 28 as the result of the 2003 case outcome, according to its docket.

Burgess said he expects the paperwork to be available to the public by the end of the week.
