Grosse Pointe Farms Council Approves Contract with Shores for Dispatch Services

Council also OKs water filtration pump repair, a bid for landscaping at the site of the demolished Kroger building and the 2011 Run the Pointe race event.

The Grosse Pointe Farms council unanimously passed a variety of items Monday.

Pump Replacement at Water Plant OKd

The council approved the emergency replacement of a pump in the water filtration plant that collapsed shortly before the recent upgrade project. The 1930 pump had been slated to be replaced in the recent system upgrade but officials removed it from the list due to the price before it collapsed. Farms officials were quoted about $170,000 for its replacement, but Farms employees believe they can fix it for $65,721 in-house. Council approved the replacement and it can be done without interruption to service, said Matthew Tepper, assistant city manager. The pump outlasted its life expectancy of 50 years, he told council.
