Grosse Pointe Woods Passes Modified Fireworks Ordinance

A new ordinance in Grosse Pointe Woods limits the use of the fireworks on national holidays defined by state law.

The Grosse Pointe Woods City Council has passed an amended ordinance which limits the times fireworks can be used.

Currently state law allows the use of consumer fireworks on 10 specific “national holidays,” and the day before and the day after each national holiday.

According to the ordinance passed by the council, no person can use fireworks between midnight and 8 a.m. on those days. On New Years’ Day, the prohibited hours are 1 - 8 a.m.

Additionally, use of consumer fireworks is prohibited on all other days of the year, except for the 30 days allowed by state law.

Anyone who violates this ordinance can face a fine up to $500.

The Department of Public Safety will be enforcing these new restrictions, according to Director of Public Safety Andrew Pazuchowski.
