Grosse Pointe Woods residents can safely rid themselves of unwanted hazardous materials at the Hazardous Waste Drop-Off event on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Items should be brought to the Department of Public Works (DPW), 1200 Parkway Drive, off Marter Road, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.. A complimentary shredding service also will be available at that time. A valid park pass or a driver’s license is required as proof of residency.

Acceptable materials include household cleaners and polishes, expired medications, automobile fluids, solvents, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, paints and wood preservatives, asbestos-containing materials, fluorescent lights, mercury and other chemicals.

A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable material is available at the Woods City Hall, and online at www.gpwmi.us in the Department of Public Works section.

Material for shredding must be in paper bags, and each vehicle is limited to the equivalent of two recycling bins or approximately four bags.

Questions can be directed to the DPW at (313) 343-2460.

Why continue to keep running this notice that's now 22 days old? Trying to make the Woods administration look like they're doing something to help the residents?
