Shores Mayor Establishes Marketing Committee

The Grosse Pointe Shores council voted unanimously to approve a new committee that will market homes in the city in order to sell more homes.

Grosse Pointe Shores Mayor Ted Kedzierski introduced a new committee Tuesday night tasked with marketing Grosse Pointe Shores to potential new home buyers moving to the metropolitan area for their jobs.

Called the Ambassador Committee, the eventual five members will work to produce marketing materials to provide to human resources officials from big companies in downtown Detroit, Kedzierski said.

The will try to get a handle on the housing market, what's available, what's vacant, what's on the market and promote the city and its real estate with the goal of hopefully attracting new and more residents, he said.

The committee received unanimous approval from the city council Tuesday after Kedzierski introduced it. There are already four members and the group will be looking for a fifth to complete the appointments.

Chairing the committee is resident D.J. Boehm, who has a marketing background. Other members include residents Gloria Anton, Madeline Phillips and Alex Lucido, who is in the real estate business, Kedzierski said. The group ideally will find one more member with a real estate background, he said.

With the plummeting property values, which are expected to drop another 12 percent this year, Kedzierski said city officials need to take action to spur real estate transactions.

The committee will be permanent, will consist of five members who each serve one year terms, Kedzierski said. A year is a good amount of time that will allow him and other city officials to determine whether the committee is having an impact and he does not intend to stagger the terms, he said after the meeting.

Boehm spoke briefly to council Tuesday, saying she's excited as are her fellow committee members, who have already met a few times. The group intends to meet officially March 9 at 10 a.m. Councilwoman Kay Felt has agreed to be the council liasion to the committee.
