This Week in Grosse Pointe: Feb. 18

An informational meeting concerning the proposed radar by the U.S. Border Patrol; Grosse Pointe Shores council will meet; and students are on midwinter break from Grosse Pointe Public Schools.

Of the many events this week in the Grosse Pointes, here are the highlights: 

1. City offices for the Grosse Pointes are closed Monday in observance of President's Day. Rubbish and recycling collection are on-schedule for most of the communities. Rubbish collection in Grosse Pointe Shores is delayed by one day this week but recycling is on-schedule. 

2. Grosse Pointe Woods city council will meet Monday beginning at 7:30 p.m. as the Committee of the Whole. According to the agenda, they will discuss:

  • finances for 2013/14 fiscal year
  • finance committee recommendations
  • Parks and Recreation spreadsheet with expenses and revenues
  • financial savings suggestions

3. An informational meeting concerning the proposed radar to be placed atop the 60-foot tower at the Grosse Pointe Club, more commonly referred to as the Little Club, will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church. 

4. The Grosse Pointe Shores city council will meet Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. According to the agenda, the council will discuss:

  • committee member appointments
  • retirement savings plan resolution

  • Wayne County Parks and Recreation bike racks and signs allocation
  • increases in municipal court fines and fees

5. Grosse Pointe Public Schools are on midwinter break this week. Students will return to classes Feb. 25.
