This Week in Grosse Pointe: May 20

Grosse Pointe Woods, Shores and City councils will meet this week. Each have plans to discuss the 2013/14 fiscal year budget. The Grosse Pointe Public School Board will meet. Teacher and other staff layoffs are among the agenda items.

Here are some highlights of events scheduled in the Grosse Pointes this week: 

1. Grosse Pointe Woods city council will hold the public hearing on the 2013/14 fiscal year budget beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday. According to the agenda, the council will also discuss: 

  • a budget transfer
  • a budget amendment 
  • bids for trucking services
  • bids for gas fired heater 
  • the purchase of two snowplows

2. Grosse Pointe Shores city council will meet beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday. According to the agenda, the council will discuss:

  • an agreement with Honeywell
  • the public hearing for the 2013/14 fiscal year budget
  • the adoption of the budget, tax rate and water rate
  • an update on dispatch operations 
  • resident notification of special meetings

3. The City of Grosse Pointe council will meet Monday beginning at 7 p.m. According to the agenda, the council will discuss: 

  • the 2013/14 fiscal year budget
  • a site plan for a salon on Mack Avenue
  • retaining an appraiser for a Michigan Tax Tribunal case
  • 'share the road' signs and bike racks

4. The Grosse Pointe Public School Board will meet Monday beginning at 7 p.m. According to the agenda, the board will discuss:

  • a resolution honoring retirees
  • changes to board policies for recognized student groups and entrance age
  • naming the North softball field after Bill Taylor
  • resurfacing parking lots at Pierce, South and Trombly
  • redoing roofs Parcells, North and South
  • teacher and non-teaching staff layoffs

5. A fundraiser is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Marge's Bar in Grosse Pointe Park to help raise money to cover the funeral expenses for Sabrina Gianino whose death was ruled a homicide last week after she was found dead inside a Wayburn Street duplex. The fundraiser was organized by friends and family.
