Beaumont Hosts Free Joint Replacement Seminar

Beaumont Grosse Pointe is hosting a free seminar where you'll hear about the latest techniques for joint replacement surgeries, including Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe’s unique “Spa for Orthopedic Specialties” recovery progra.

“People used to decide to have knee or hip replacement surgery only when walking became too painful,” says Andrew Ajluni, D.O., orthopedic surgeon and seminar presenter. “Now, aging baby boomers seek surgical and non-surgical treatment options earlier to maintain their active lifestyles.”

The seminar will also acquaint participants with the “Spa for Orthopedic Specialties” recovery program. This program begins several weeks before surgery by inviting patients to a class that explains every step of their total joint replacement surgery.

The class provides details about what equipment they should have at home to assist them in their recovery and post-surgery rehabilitation process. During the patient’s hospital stay, the Spa program integrates nightly foot massages, aroma therapy and fruit smoothies to offset daily physical therapy sessions that contribute to prompt healing and recovery.

The newly renovated Janet A. and H. Richard Fruehauf Jr. Center for Orthopaedic Medicine at Beaumont, Grosse Pointe features large, barrier-free bathrooms, new furnishings and equipment, and a fully-equipped physical therapy gym.
