Understanding Islam - a Three-Part Series

Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church is hosting “Understanding Islam: A View From the Inside”, a three part lecture and discussion series that begins October 4 at the church.

Imam Radwin Mohammad Mardini, Chaplain of the American Muslim Center in Dearborn will speak on Thursday, October 4 and Tuesday, October 11, 7:00 pm both nights. These first two sessions will focus on Islam as a modern religion, Islamic Law, its history, and the future of Islam and its relationship with the non-Muslim world.


Professor Ronald Stockton from U of M Dearborn will speak at the third session on Tuesday, October 16. His talk is entitled “Arab Spring, Arab Winter, and War With Iran?” He will focus on the current state of affairs in the Middle East and the widespread unrest the world is witnessing.

Imam Mardini is the Imam (Chaplin) of the American Muslim Center in Dearborn, Michigan. He also works for the state of Michigan as an institutional Chaplin for the State Prison of Southern Michigan in Jackson, Michigan. He has served since 1987 as the Magistrate of the Islamic Faith and was appointed by the Grand Mafti of Lebanon.


Professor Ronald Stockton is a professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan – Dearborn and Research Associate at the University of Michigan Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies. He is an expert on Middle East relations.
