Grosse Pointe Board of Education Recognizes Students

Dozens of Grosse Pointe Schools students received recognition Monday for a variety of achievements.

Superintendent C. Suzanne Klein honored dozens of students Monday during the school board's monthly meeting. The students are part of different academic teams and organizations that have won awards and medals in statewide competitions. 

The students each received a certificate from Board President John Steininger and lined the side of South's library, which was filled with proud parents snapping pictures and clapping. 

Those recognized include:

  • Freshman Destination Inspiration Team, which took first place in a state competition.
  • Grosse Pointe South newspaper and yearbook received a myriad of awards from journalism organizations.
  • Quiz Bowl team, which earned the state championship title.
  • Pierce Middle School Michigan Social Studies Olympiad, which earned 18 gold medals, six silver medals, one bronze medal and two honorable mentions.

Additionally, the board recognized Trombly teacher Susan Howey for being accepted into the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy
