Grosse Pointe South Ranks Fourth in Top Michigan Schools

U.S. News lists the high school in the gold metal category for a variety of reasons.

Grosse Pointe South High School is at the head of the class.

U.S. News and World Report ranks the school fourth in Michigan and 341 in the nation, listing it in the gold metal category, according to a recently released list.

"I am very excited for the honor for the school," South Principal Matt Outlaw told Patch. "To me, it is a representation of our team approach to education. We are blessed with unbelievable support from families and the community.

"Our students come to us ready to learn and are supported by their parents every step of the way. In our schools, we are blessed with remarkable teachers that go above-and-beyond every day. This teamwork results in our students excelling at the next level and beyond."

Among the reasons cited in the ranking, U.S. News lists students' ability to take advance placement courses and exams--noting AP participation rate at the school is 59 percent.

Some Grosse Pointe Patch Facebook users cheered news of the top ranking Tuesday, including Patrick Clark who simply put "Tradition=Excellence."

The International Academy in Bloomfield Hills took the first spot, followed by City Middle/High School in Grand Rapids in second and then Frankenmuth High School in third. For the complete list, visit the U.S. News website.
