Holly Academy Earns Reward School Designation

Oakland County School to host grand opening for addition later this month.

Holly Academy is one of the 286 Michigan schools that have been designated as Reward Schools for either high student achievement or making tremendous progress in student achievement, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) announced last week.  Reward Schools is the highest achievement of the three new school designations.

"I was contacted by MDE the day prior to the statewide report cards being issued and was informed that Holly Academy has been designated as a Reward school based on our high academic performance, placing us in the top 5% ranking of all districts in the state,” said Holly Academy Director Julie Kildee.

“This designation validates the coordinated effort put forth by our exceptional staff. As a true professional learning community, we at Holly Academy consistently and systematically focus on student achievement. It is nice to be recognized for our hard work; however, at Holly Academy we will continue to do what we always do, placing the highest priority on student learning."

Reward Schools include the top five percent of schools on the annual top-to-bottom ranking of all Michigan schools, and the top five percent of schools making the greatest academic progress over the previous four years.

“We applaud the hard work and achievement of the educators and students in our Reward Schools because they are zeroed in on improving learning, “said state Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan.  “We need to instill that goal in so many more schools, in order to help all kids be career- and college-ready and successful in life.”

The 286 Reward Schools are located in 178 different school districts across the state.  There are a total of 17 schools in Oakland County which are in the top 5 percent ranking.

Holly Academy will host a Grand Opening for the school's addition on August 29 from 4 to 5 p.m. at 820 Academy Road.
