Kerby Elementary Principal Search Begins

Following the promotion of Maureen Bur this week as a district curriculum director, Grosse Pointe Public School officials are now beginning their search for her replacement as the Kerby Elementary School principal.

Next week Maureen G. Bur will begin as for . Her focus will be on the elementary level--something she is familiar with after serving as the principal of for nine years. 

Grosse Pointe Public School officials posted the job opportunity this week to the district's own website as well as a variety of other educational outlets. Applications will be accepted through July 13.

According to the posting, the district wants candidates who possess a master's degree, at least three years of administrative experience and provide evidence of strong leadership.

Kerby is in the heart of the five Grosse Pointes, located on Kerby Road in Grosse Pointe Farms. It serves about 360 students.

The district has also posted an online survey for community members to provide feedback about professional and personality traits they would like to see in the new Kerby principal. The survey will be available through July 13.

Additionally, an informational meeting is scheduled for Monday July 2 in the Kerby library for the community. According to a timeline by the district, officials are hopeful to have:

  • screening interviews by July 18
  • full committee interviews by July 23
  • superintendent interviews by July 25

Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Educational Development Jon Dean sent a letter to the parents of Kerby Elementary students inviting them to take the survey, come to Monday's meeting and let them know of Bur's promotion.

Meanwhile, the district is also searching for . Dean previously told Patch he was pleased by the turnout at , explaining many  parents attended.

District spokeswoman Rebecca Fannon said this week that Dean is trying to include parents and the community in the process when finding new administrators. Dean began with the district in January and this summer is the first time he is leading the efforts in hiring administrators in the Grosse Pointe district.
