Meet Grosse Pointe South Principal Final 2 Candidates

Grosse Pointe Public Schools will hold a community reception for each of the two finalist interviewing for the Grosse Pointe South principal position Tuesday July 19.

officials have narrowed the list of candidates for the principal to two and the public is invited to meet each during separate community receptions. 

Six of 100 who applied to the position were interviewed this week by a team that included district officials, parents, teachers and union representatives. 

The two finalist will each have a community reception Tuesday July 19 in the Grosse Pointe South student commons area. The receptions are scheduled as follows:

  • Cathryn Armstrong, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Matt Outlaw, 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.

Both candidates hold doctorate degrees. 

Outlaw was the only internal candidate of the six interviewed.

He is an assistant principal at . He previously worked in Novi Schools, where he taught social studies, Spanish and other subjects as well as served as a coach. He left his position as Dean of Novi High School when he came to Grosse Pointe. 

Armstrong is an assistant principal at Harrison High School in Farmington School District. Her school has enrollment of 1,195 students, according to their district web site

The district needs to hire a principal and assistant principal for South after the shortly before the end of the school year in connection with an investigation of inappropriate adult images being shared on school computers and Blackberries.

The investigation is still on-going with the district but  and therefore have ended their investigation.
