Register Your Kindergartners Grosse Pointe

Grosse Pointe Public School district officials are urging parents to register their children for kindergarten now. By registering before the summer, it allows officials to have a better estimate for budgeting purposes.

Parents of children who will begin kindergarten are encouraged to register their child now with Grosse Pointe Public School System.

Registration is on-going at the district offices on St. Clair Street in the City of Grosse Pointe. The district's website provides detailed information about what documentation is required to register a kindergartner as well as the paperwork that should be completed.

Staffing is based on enrollment and kindergarten is one of the larger variables because it involves students who are not yet a part of the district. School district officials are currently in the process of determining a budget, which means they are determining what teacher staffing is necessary in each school based on current enrollment and estimates.

The budget for the next school year must be finalized in the middle of the summer, which means staffing is determined based on enrollment figures determined now through the end of the school year.

Children who turn 5 years old by Nov. 1, 2013 are eligible to enroll for kindergarten for the 2013/14 school year. In addition to the paperwork, the district's website also provides information about the kindergarten curriculum and what to expect.
