This Week in Grosse Pointe: Aug. 27

The Grosse Pointe Public School Board will meet. Among their agenda items is the retirement of Ellen Bowen. Teachers will also return to the classroom and the Racing for Kids street fair is Wednesday.

Among the many events and happenings this week in Grosse Pointe, here are the highlights:

1. The city council will meet beginning at 7 p.m. Monday. According to the agenda, the council will discuss:

  • extention the Downtown Development Authority Tax Increment Finance Plan
  • appointments to committees

2. The Board will meet Monday beginning at 7 p.m. at Brownell Middle School. According to the agenda, the board will discuss:

  • gifts from the Grosse Pointe Foundation for Public Education
  • tuition for students found in violation of the eligibility requirements outlined by state law
  • the human resources report, that is supposed to include the retirement of Ellen Bowen. The report was not available online for review.

The Board will begin Monday night with a closed meeting beginnig at 6 p.m. The notice of the meeting posted online does not include the reason for the meeting.

3. Teachers from will return to their classrooms Wednesday to begin preparations for the return of students, which is Sept. 4--the day after Labor Day.

4. The annual Racing for Kids streetfair on the Hill in is Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kercheval Avenue will be closed down for the event, which features this year an art trailer where children can create their own works of art.
