Whiz Kids: Fundraisers for a Cure

Grosse Pointe Academy's Rachel Lannen and Nicholas Bojarczyk led their Relay for Life teams to award-winning fundraiser levels.

Name: Rachel Lannen and Nicholas Bojarczyk

  • Ages: 13 and 12, respectively
  • School: , seventh and sixth grades
  • Accomplishment: Both students helped lead their Relay for Life teams in fundraising, reaching award-winning levels. 
  • Key to Success: Rachel served as a co-captain to her team, Got Cure, and won an award for raising the most money by an individual. She raised more than $2,500 and there were 11 members on her team. 
  • Nicholas was the captain of his team, Bulldogs Unite, which took third place for funds raised. The team of 23 sixth graders also won an overall trophy for Community and Humanitarian Fundraising from the American Cancer Society. The team led the fundraising board in the school for four months, only to be passed in the last four days. Nicholas also earned an individual award, Future Committee Member Leader, for his leadership of the Bulldogs Unite.
