Grosse Pointe Flag Company to Raise Old Glory Again in Hart Plaza

A Grosse Pointe Woods company is scheduled to announce a plan to restore the flagpoles in Hart Plaza, and once again fly American flags over waterfront facility.

A Grosse Pointe Woods company will announce Friday their plans to restore flagpoles in Hart Plaza, and will fly American flags over the waterfront location in Detroit.

Revolution Flag Group is scheduled to announce their plans to restore the flagpoles and fly flags over Hart Plaza for the first time in 13 years. 

According to a release, Revolution Flag has received permission from the City of Detroit to repair the 20, 50-foot tall flagpoles in Hart Plaza. The company will also be installing 20 brand new American flags in May of 2014.

Revolution Flag Group will also maintain the flags by changing them every 3 months for 2 years, and solar lighting will be installed to illuminate the flags at night. 

State Sen. Bert Johnson, D-Detroit, who is scheduled to attend the announcement, and is supporting the effort.

“American flags have not been flown in Hart Plaza for years and I’m honored to support these organizations’ efforts to restore our nation’s premier symbol to the heart of Detroit,” said Johnson, in a release.

Revolution Flag Group is working to raise $60,000 to fund this project. Donations can be made at any Chase Bank under the Suits for Soldiers account and are tax deductible.

 “I hope the community at large will support this worthy project,” Johnson said. “Revolution Flag Group’s President is a fine young man with a civically-oriented mind and I’m proud of him for pursuing this goal.”
