Teams, whether they like to admit it or not, are beginning to look ahead to the state playoffs just a few weeks from away.

This time of year is, for most prep sports fans, the start of a month-long stretch that includes league-title chases, state playoff runs, and, in rare cases - state championships.

Before we get into the week ahead, the Pick of the Week wants to congratulate Micaela Liddane of .

The senior standout athlete (Liddane played basketball, volleyball and soccer at GPN) signed a letter of intent recently to play volleyball at Ohio Dominican University

Classmates, Laine Maher, Sean Koerber and Kailey Sickmiller also signed letters of intent.

Congrats and good luck at the next level.

So, without further delay, let’s take a look at the upcoming week’s action.

  • lacrosse vs Ike, May 17, at home, 7 p.m.  If lacrosse is your thing, and even if it’s not, this promises to be a dynamite game. Ike and GPS come in as the top two teams in the Macomb Area Conference Red, with the Eagles trailing the Blue Devils by one-half game. That’s said, it’s easy to see why this match-up is a no-brainer for us to recommend.
  • Grosse Pointe North baseball vs. Stevenson, May 16 at home, 4:30 p.m. Look, the Norsemen have struggled out of the gate and nothing would help right the ship more than a victory over the MAC Red’s top squad, Stevenson High.
  • - baseball vs Detroit Catholic Central, May 18, at home 4 p.m.  This might be the game of the week, or the month. The Knights square off against the legendary program in C.C., and this promises to be a great game between a pair of top-notch teams. Better yet, it’s a doubleheader!
