Baseball's on the Brain in Grosse Pointe

Grosse Pointe North, Grosse Pointe South, University Liggett dodge weather as spring sports season presses forward.

Admittedly, the weather for the opening week of the spring sports season wasn’t ideal.

In many cases, games were cancelled and meets postponed.

That said, let’s keep our fingers crossed for the upcoming week, weather-wise, and give you a healthy selection of game possibilities that you can catch if Mother Nature decides to cooperate.

This week is about baseball, namely the Invitational this Saturday at South.

The Blue Devils, fresh off a 14-0 and 13-3 sweep of Lutheran Northwestern Thursday afternoon, play host to Lake Shore, Warren Woods Tower and Detroit Western on Saturday morning in a tournament that traditionally signals the beginning of the baseball season at South.

The Norsemen, fresh off a win of their own against Farmington High last week, host Ford II Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, top-ranked brings their talented squad to the diamond at Lutheran Northwest Tuesday. I know it’s a hike to get there, but this could be a real quality game, especially early on in the season.

Northwest has a veteran team with plenty of pop at the plate. Check this one out if you feel like following the Knights to Rochester Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
