Community Cheers GPWSLL To World Series Berth

The Grosse Pointe community gathered Saturday at Grosse Pointe Woods City Hall to cheer GPWSLL onto the Little League World Series.

Supporters of the Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores Little League packed into two tents on the front lawn of the Grosse Pointe Woods City Hall Saturday to watch the team punch their ticket to Williamsport.

The team from the Grosse Pointes defeated Jackie Robinson West, from Chicago, 10-3 in the Great Lakes Regional championship game in Indianapolis.

For those who could not travel to the game, Grosse Pointe Woods city officials organized a showing of the game. Nearly 100 friends and supporters - including some wearing their own Little League jerseys - gathered as a community to root for the home team.

According to the Detroit News, the next game for the Great Lakes champions will be 3 p.m. Friday against the West Region winner in the first game in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

The story added that all of the Little League World Series games will be on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC.
