Lifeguard Training
The American Red Cross is offering Lifeguard Training classes, to be held at the Grosse Pointe Woods Community Center and the Grosse Pointe North Pool.
The purpose of the class is to teach the skills and knowledge needed to:
- Prevent aquatic emergencies
- Recognize and respond to emergencies
- Prevent drownings and injuries.
To take the course, trainees must be 15 years old by April 30, 2011, be able to swim 500 yards using front crawl and breast stroke, and be able to dive to a depth of 13 feet to retrieve a 10-pound brick.

Classes are held March 21-April 30, 2011. Monday and Wednesday classes will be held from 6-9 pm at the community center, and Saturday classes will be held 12-4 pm at the pool at Grosse Pointe North, located at 707 Vernier Road.
