Grosse Pointe South Grad Among University of Michigan Baseball Recruits for 2013-14 Season

Carmen Benedetti of Grosse Pointe will play baseball at University of Michigan.

University of Michigan announced its recruiting baseball class Wednesday for the upcoming season, with Grosse Pointe South graduate Carmen Benedetti among the new players.

Benedetti, who signed a letter of intent with the university in January, was an honor roll student at South who won four district championships at the school. He is a three-time All-State first team selection, according to www.mgoblue.com.

"This class will help accelerate the positive momentum we generated in 2013 and help bring championships back to Michigan baseball. The future is extremely bright," the college team's head coach Erik Bakich was quoted saying on the website.

Benedetti was standing out early on at the high school. In June 2011, his varsity baseball coach Dan Griesbaum told Patch, "Carmen is only a sophomore ... but he has many colleges interested in him already."
