Grosse Pointe South Runners Set Pace at National Meet

Kelsie Schwartz, Ersula Farrow, Haley Meier and Hannah Meier won the 4x1-mile relay at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at Columbia University in New York

Grosse Pointe South athletes Kelsie Schwartz, Ersula Farrow, Haley Meier and Hannah Meier recently won the 4x1-mile relay at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at Columbia University in New York.

Their winning time of 20 minutes, 2 seconds was the fastest recorded in the country this year and the third-fastest in history, according to an email from Grosse Pointe South coach Steve Zaranek. The national record is 19:59.

Schwartz, Farrow, Haley Meier and Hannah Meier also won the event at the meet last year. They competed as part of the Grosse Pointe Track Club. (When out of season, track and field athletes in Michigan must run for a club or unattached, according to Zaranek.)
