Gymnasts Shine Against Fraser

Grosse Pointe United gymnastics team defeated Fraser on Wednesday and put in a strong showing at the Farmington Invitational.

The Grosse Pointe United gymnastics team earned a league win against visiting Fraser on Wednesday night, defeating the Ramblers 139.55-126.6.  

Emma Abessinio broke the school record on floor by scoring a 9.65 on that event. Aubryn Samaroo had her best all-around meet of the season, including a personal best on vault with an 8.9 and season high score on floor with a 9.45.

On beam, Emily Griffith and Megan Curran earned regional qualifying scores with season best scores of 8.15 and 7.8, respectively.

Last weekend, Grosse Pointe United placed fifth out of 19 teams at the Farmington Invitational, scoring a season high 140.55 points.  

Grosse Pointe’s also tied for first in the balance beam event for the second year in a row.

Three Grosse Pointe gymnasts, Emma Abessinio (fourth), Kaiser (sixth) and Sarah Fenton (seventh) placed in the top 10 in the all-around competition.  

Other top-10 finishes for Grosse Pointe gymnasts included Kaiser (eighth,vault); Abessinio (third floor, fifth bars, eighth beam); Fenton (sixth beam, fifth floor) and Aubryn Samaroo (10th floor). Also contributing to the team’s score were Fran Kay and Ashley Krynski.
