McKee an Intense, Shifty Midfielder

Grosse Pointe North's Nadia McKee leads soccer team with encouraging words and intensity.

Some players revel in individual achievement and personal attention on the field.

Not Nadia McKee.

The junior soccer player understands the power in the saying "there is no 'I' in team" and is a team player through-and-through.

"Nadia's presence is obvious when she's on the field," Grosse Pointe North varsity soccer coach Chris Alston said.  "She seems to be everywhere, yet allows her teammates to do their jobs too.  She leads by example with her high intensity and encouraging remarks.  Nadia makes everyone around her better and teammates love to play with her."

In her third year on the varsity team, McKee made the move from outside midfielder to central midfield and leads the team from that quarterback spot.  She scored once in this early season, netting a goal against Utica in a game that ended at 3-3.

"Nadia is a an extremely up-beat person, constantly smiling and laughing," said Alston.  "But once she steps onto the field, she becomes all business.  She is a very intense, hard-working, quick, tough and shifty player.   Her game dosen't always show on the stat sheet due to the fact that she attracts a lot of attention and that allows others to prosper.  And that doesn't bother her in the least."

McKee is one of three captains for the Norseman.

The junior plays for the Bloomfield Force in the off-season and she constantly tries to improve her physical tools as well as gaining a better understanding of the game.
