North Boys Swim Team Defeats L'Anse Creuse North, Romeo

The Grosse Pointe North High School boys swimming and diving team defeated two teams this week in two different meets.

The Boys Swimming and Diving Team defeated L'Anse Creuse North Thursday night in a 104.5 to 78.5 margin.

Christian Mellos, Justin Rakowicz and Matthew Leone were double winners.

  • Mellos took the 200 yard freestyle, in D2 state qualifying time, and the 100 yard butterfly
  • Rakowicz took the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard breastroke
  • Leone was victorious in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke

James McNelis notched a win in the 1 meter diving.

  • 50 yard freestyle: Michael Jansenn,and Anthony Cafagna
  • 100 yard freestyle: Christian Mellos, Peter Shea, Kyle Young and Eric Simoes
  • 200 yard freestyle: Christian Mellos and Danny MacAskill
  • 500 yard freestyle: Danny MacAskill
  • 100 yard backstroke: John Leone
  • 100 yard breastroke: Justin Rakowicz and Matt Stander
  • 100 yard butterfly: Christian Mellos
  • 200 yard individual medley: Justin Rakowicz and Michael Reith
  • 1 meter diving: James McNelis, Duncan MacAskill and Graham Eger

North is now 4-4 (0-3 MAC Red) in dual meet competition.

Earlier this week the team dropped a 108-78 decision on Romeo.

Christian Mellos was a double winner taking both the 200 yard individual medleyand the 100 yard breastroke in D2 state qualifying times. Mellos time in the 100 yard breastroke established a new Romeo pool record.

Single winners included:

  • Justin Rakowicz 100 yard butterfly
  • Peter Shea 500 yard freestyle
  • Matthew Leone 100 yard backstroke
  • James McNelis 1 meter diving

Season best performances were recorded in the following events:

  • 50 yard freestyle: John Hales, and John Leone,
  • 100 yard freestyle: Justin Rakowicz, A.J. Owens and Anthony Cafagna
  • 200 yard freestyle: Peter Shea and Danny McAskill
  • 100 yard backstroke: Matthew Leone
  • 100 yard breastroke: Matt Stander
  • 100 yard butterfly: Justin Rakowicz
  • 200 yard individual medley: Michael Reith
