The Grosse Pointe North senior has announced that he will continue his academic and baseball career at Kalamazoo College this fall. The news was made official at North's media day on June 7 at the student union.

"Anthony is a very intense young man and one of the hardest workers on our team," said Sumbera. "He led by example and is an excellent student athlete. He played shortstop all season and did some relief pitching."

Shaheen's season stats include 92 AB, 25 runs, 37 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 22 RBIs, 15 walks, 13 strikeouts and 12 stolen bases. His batting average was .402 with a .929 fielding average.

“The Grosse Pointe North community is very proud of all of our students," Kennedy said. "It is a pleasure to be part of students achieving their goals and dreams.  We have continued to carry on a strong tradition of students being active and successful beyond their high school years. An event like 'media day' is an opportunity to share the greatness of the Norsemen with the community.”

The shortstop standout was named all-division for the Macomb Area Conference Red Division, all-district and Grosse Pointe North's most valuable player and defensive player of the year.

"Anthony is truly a fine young man who has his best baseball in front of him," said Sumbera.
