Comeback falls short for Norsemen as L'Anse Cruese spoils Grosse Pointe North's football opener.

Despite a dramatic late-fourth-quarter comeback Friday night led by quarterback Jack Stander, the Norsemen dropped their season opener, 27-21, in overtime to L'Anse Creuse.

North did everything it could, however, to earn the victory. With 21 seconds remaining in regulation, Stander threw a touchdown pass to Tod Long.

The late-game heroics set the stage for a game-tying two-point conversion from Stander to Sean McHale. The successful attempt knotted the score at 21-21 at the close of the fourth quarter.

North failed to put up any points in its overtime possession while the Lancers rushed the ball in from the 6-yard line to earn the victory.

Aaron Rivera and Dylan Balicki also scored for the Norsemen in the contest.
