South Soccer Continues Toward State Crown

Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils square off against Canton in high school girls soccer regional semifinals.

The girls soccer team continues its march toward a state championship Wednesday night when they lock horns with Canton at Dearborn Edsel Ford High School beginning at 7 p.m.

The Blue Devils enter the game on the heels of a and a potential regional final matchup Saturday afternoon ( 1 p.m.) against either Ann Arbor Pioneer or Saline High, should the get by Canton.

Canton All-Stater Melanie Pickert leads the Chiefs into Wednesday's showdown with South.

The Blue Devils wrapped up the regular season 14-4-1 overall, and were the runners-up in the Macomb Area Conference Red to Eisenhower, which advanced to the regional finals Tuesday night with a 3-2 victory over Troy Athens. 

Ike plays top-ranked Novi on Friday night for a chance to advance to the Division 1 semifinals June 18.

Should South win its region, and Ike win its, the two MAC foes would battle for a spot in the state finals.
