STATE CHAMPS: Grosse Pointe South Golfers Claim Title

Blue Devils win Division 1 girls golf state crown at the Meadows at Grand Valley State.

The Blue Devils proved that Saturday after they claimed the Division 1 girls golf state championship at the Meadows at Grand Valley State, according to mhsaa.com.

Grosse Pointe South recorded a two-day total of 692 to win by 21 strokes over runner-up Rochester Hills Stoney Creek (713).

Tenley Shield led the Blue Devils with a 167. After shooting an 85 in the first round Friday, she followed with an 82 on Saturday. Shield tied for sixth overall.

Grosse Pointe South’s Ella Pendy tied for 10th at 174. Claire Boyle (175) and Lily Pendy (176) were right behind for the Blue Devils.

Hannah Buzolits also competed in the state finals for GPS.

Rochester Hills Stoney Creek’s Gabby Yurik won the individual championship with a 36-hole total of 153.
