Grosse Pointe Woods native Justin Kovacs scored the game winning goal in overtime Saturday to give Western Michigan University the Great Lakes Invitational title.

Kovacs, a junior forward, scored the goal on a rebound against Michigan Tech at 2:01 into overtime Saturday after Shane Berschbach put a shot on net, according to Western Michigan University

"It’s nice getting it for the tournament winner. I just saw one of our players celebrating and then I knew it went in,” he told the Western Michigan University sports website

He leads the team with nine goals, and improved the Broncos to a 9-8-3 record with the win.

Kovacs is a 2009 graduate of Grosse Pointe North.
