Wally's Opens in Lake Front Park in Grosse Pointe Woods

Wally's, which moved from Harper Woods to St. Clair Shores last year, was the winning bidder for the concession contract in Grosse Pointe Woods. National Coney Island previously operated the concession stand in the park.
Matt Ahearn, who owns Wally's with his wife Eliza, said he has wanted to expand into Grosse Pointe Woods for several years.
With this opportunity, and the success of the Custard and Coffee Station in St. Clair Shores, he has been on a hiring spree.
"We are helping the local economy," Ahearn said, who has 25 employees, comprised of high school and college students who are gaining customer service and management experience.
In addition to bringing frozen custard to the stand, Wally's menu includes chicken and tuna salad sandwiches, lettuce wraps, fruit smoothies and sliders, which he called the "best on the eastside."
The concession stand will be open during pool hours until Labor Day.
