Autumn Blessings

I have a confession to make, and I know this may be a type of heresy for some of you, but Spring is not my favorite season.  Don’t get me wrong, I am glad when winter is over and we are finally able to escape our winter hibernating and be outside again in the Spring, but it is still not my favorite, Autumn is.  As Emily Bronte once said, “Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.”  Even C. S. Lewis said “autumn is really the best of the seasons” so I guess that puts me in some pretty good company with others who love Autumn.

There is just something about God’s work in this season that seems almost magical.  The weather slowly begins to change from those hot humid summer days to cool evenings and bright, crisp days.  Unashamed, the leaves slowly begin to show their brilliant colors to the world.  With a slow and steady progression we begin to move from outside activities at the park and at the lake, to activities closer to home and family.  We spend time inside with family and friends enjoying each others company, without fear of what the winter snows might bring.

It is always amazing to me to watch how God works in autumn.  Through the world that continues to change around us, the bright colors of Fall in the trees, the plants in our yards that begin to go dormant huddling up for the cold of winter.  Autumn is a reminder to reconnect with God, with family and friends, and with ourselves.  We spend the summer running around, having fun, traveling from place to place, and when autumn arrives we have the opportunity slow down, take a deep breath, and enjoy watching God at work around us as we ask God to continue to be at work in us.

It can be easy to skip the joys of autumn in preparation for what winter will bring, but don’t miss the blessings on autumn.  Don’t miss the opportunity to take a deep breath and find out what God is saying to you, and how God wants to use you.  Don’t miss the blessing of encouraging one another as we continue on a journey of faith together.  Take the time to rest in God’s presence and thank Him for the tremendous blessings we have received and ask how God can use you during this season.

God bless, Rev. Liz Arakelian, www.LivingHopeEC.org
