New Year - What We're Missing

The beginning of a New Year always seems to be about making resolutions and fresh starts.  We make resolutions to do better, to manage our money better, to lose weight, to manage our time better, to say ‘no’ more, maybe to read the Bible and pray more often.  We make New Year’s resolutions for just about everything.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with New Year’s resolutions.  It can be a great time to refocus and think about what we really need and commit our lives to God.  It can be a great time for a fresh new start at something.  There is nothing wrong with resolving to get our finances in order, or spending more time doing things that really have meaning for us.  We make resolutions and promises about how the New Year will be different because we are sure that there has to be something better.  If only we accomplish these goals and resolutions our lives will be better.  There is something better.  Someone that completes us and heals our brokenness, found in a babe born in a manger.

Through candles, stars, and Christmas lights of Christmas, we have seen that a light has shinned in our dark world.  When someone trapped in the darkness of sin can see the light of Christ and believe in the glory of the Messiah.  When people can finally see a new way of living and stop trusting in themselves or our world for salvation, and start trusting in Christ.  When we are reminded to come to the King of Kings and worship.

It seems we are always looking for that one thing to make our lives better, that one thing that will make our lives work like we think they should, that one thing that will make our lives whole and complete.  That one thing is Christ.  The light of Christ has shinned in our world and in our lives and we are called to come offering our gifts of praise and worship.  Once the grace, mercy and forgiveness of Jesus Christ shines in your life, it will never stop shining. No matter how dark the world gets around you, Christ’s love will always shine in your life. This New Year may we commit ourselves to living more and more as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.  May we see ever more clearly the light of the world and the glory of the Savior, Jesus Christ in our own lives, that we may truly come and worship.

God bless, Rev. Liz Arakelian, www.LivingHopeEC.org
