First Place People's Choice Award: Perchfolio

After tallying votes taken last week at the unveiling of the 51 Grosse Pointe Perch that will be lining the streets of the five communities this summer, the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce announced the first place winner today as Perchfolio.

Perchfolio, one of , is the first place winner in , in which votes were lodged last week during .

The announced the first place winner Wednesday. The artists whose fish won will receive a gift certificate to a restaurant.

The project is meant to draw people to the Pointes to not only roam the community to see the fish but also to frequent the many businesses. In October, some of the .

Perchfolio was sponsored by , and the artist is Sue Majewski, of St. Clair Shores. Perchfolio was placed Tuesday outside of 19471 Mack Ave. in Grosse Pointe Woods, along with the other 50 fish who were scattered about the five Pointes. The heaviest concentration of fish are along Mack Avenue and Kercheval Avenue.

The Perch features nearly 600 photos from Martin's archives of friends, family and clients from the past two years. Martin and several of his friends cut out people's faces to fit individual glass scales. Majewski placed the photos underneath the scales before attaching to the fish.

"She literally had Band-Aids on her fingers from the glass," Martin said of the work Majewski put into the fish. "I stood there in awe for 20 minutes."

In addition to the cuts to her fingers, Majewski said that she worked outside during the recent heat wave to finish her fish.

"It was all worth it," she said of the finished product and the honor.

Is there a map of where the fish are located? Great job, artists. I've been enjoying the fish along Mack during my walks.

There is a map Libby-- another story published this morning has the map with all of the individual fish marked along with the name, sponsor and artist: http://grossepointe.patch.com/articles/grosse-pointe-perch-take-a-tour Should anyone need a hardcopy, you may stop in to pretty much any of the businesses where you see a fish and they should have one to share with you!

Thank you, everyone! Sue did a fantastic job making my vision come to life and deserves all the credit.

Just an FYI, but the fish locations and display spots were selected by each individual sponsor. I've really loved seeing everyone around town checking them out!

I attempted to see #1 on the map and couldn't find it. I was told by employees of another business that they thought it was INSIDE the sponsor's building. Disappointing, and I didn't take the time to go in. I hope that's just a temporary decision. Free the fish! (hee hee)
