Free Parking, "White Christmas" and Holiday Stories Told by Signing Coming Up This Weekend

Free parking, Santa and unique gifts with free wrapping are among the events and activities planned for this weekend.

Here are some items to add to your weekend calendar:

Free and reduced parking

This is the last weekend of free and reduced parking in the City of Grosse Pointe and Grosse Pointe Woods.

Shoppers heading to the City of Grosse Pointe can take advantage of discounted parking by using a new mobile phone app to pay for parking meters throughout the community. The city is offering a holiday promotion of a $1-off a one-time parking charge during a Parkmobile activated session at parking meters in the city.

In the Village  there is free parking in surface lots Saturday and Sunday.

Grosse Pointe Woods City Council also recently voted to cover the parking meters along Mack Avenue through Dec. 26, and allow for free parking.

"White Christmas"

This is the final weekend for Grosse Pointe Theatre's presentation of "White Christmas" at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Shows will be at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Art Center shopping

The Grosse Pointe Art Center's ‘Holiday Shop’ in the Village features local artists' work and Detroit themed and unique handcrafted gifts. It is open Saturday from noon  – 6 p.m. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, 12- 4 p.m. Free gift wrapping is also available.

Holidays at the Ford House

Take a stroll around the grounds of the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House this weekend with Winter Wonderland Weekends.

Visit with Santa, holiday stories signed

Families can visit with Santa from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Santa's Village on Kercheval in the Village. Additionally, from 11-2 p.m. will be Holiday Signing Story Time with Momcat's Signing Academy at Santa's Village. There is no charge, and the Signing Academy will read a holiday story and teach signs for winter and holiday.
