Two men arrested earlier this month after police found pounds of marijuana in their Somerset Street home will be arraigned Wednesday in Grosse Pointe Park court on two felony counts each.
The two men arrested Aug. 2 after Grosse Pointe Park police raided their Somerset Street home and seized pounds of marijuana, cash and loose pills will appear in court Wednesday. The men are each being charged with manufacturing 5 to 45 kilograms of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver. The first count is punishable by seven years in prison and the second by four. The charges have been approved by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, according to information released by Park Detective David Loch. Members of the Park's Special Response Team (SRT), which is the equivalent of a SWAT team, entered the home in the 1400 block of Somerset Street with a search warrant Aug. 2. A 19-year-old Detroit man is being held in connection with an attempted purse snatching in Grosse Pointe Park June 18. City of Grosse Pointe Judge Russell Ethridge issued a felony warrant for his arrest last week. Casada Sorrell is being held on a $5,000 bond. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment before Grosse Pointe Park Judge Carl Jarboe and is scheduled to return to court Aug. 3 for a preliminary exam. Park Sgt. David Loch said Sorrell, who had been hiding out from the police, was arrested by the Macomb County Sheriff's Department in an unrelated case. The warrant from Grosse Pointe Park was served to him in jail and then he was turned over to the custody of a Park officer, Loch said. The nature of the other case is not known…

The Grosse Pointe Woods man arrested for breaking into Rivard Boulevard homes earlier this month waived his preliminary exam Thursday in the City of Grosse Pointe court. Zachary J. Court, 19, is charged with first-degree home invasion, possession of methamphetamine, attempting to complete a financial transaction using a device, larceny and habitual offender. Court was arrested July 11 a short time after a resident in the 800 block of Rivard Boulevard called police to report someone had taken his laptop and cell phone from his kitchen table. Police discovered Court walking with a backpack they later discovered was stolen from a neighboring house. Police said the backpack was loaded with the stolen goods.
