More Than 1,600 Without Power, Outage Closes Barnes

The school closed Thursday and will be closed again Friday, July 22. Grosse Pointe Public School officials are trying to find an alternative for the programs that meet at the center.

What began as 800-plus customers without power in the 48236 zip code has grown during the day to more than 1,600, according to DTE outage maps.  Early in the day, the maps showed that 453 customers on and near the M streets the Farms were out of power. Shortly before 5 p.m., the outages expanded to incorporate about 1,300 customers in the Farms all the way from Mack to Lake Shore Road. The restoration time is expected to be 11:30 p.m. Friday.  The outage caused Grosse Pointe Public Schools to close Barnes Early Childhood Center, where many programs meet in the summer including Safety Town.
