The St. Joan of Arc boys varsity basketball team will take the court at 3 p.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Prep for the CYO boys basketball championship. The Chargers, the boys eastside champions, will meet Our Lady of Victory, the westside champions, for the title. St. Joan—located in St. Clair Shores near Grosse Pointe Woods—topped undefeated Shrine on Wednesday to earn a spot in the title game. Notre Dame Prep is located at 1300 Giddings Road in Pontiac.

Grand Haven defeats Grosse Pointe South 54-53 in Class A girls basketball state championship game.
Grosse Pointe South’s girls basketball team lost a heartbreaker in the state championship. Grand Haven guard Shar’Rae Davis’ basket in the final seconds lifted the Bucs to a 54-53 victory over Grosse Pointe South in the Class A state championship game on Saturday in the Breslin Center at East Lansing. Grosse Pointe South led for much of the game and built a double-digit lead in the third quarter. But Grand Haven rallied to take the lead late in the fourth quarter and the two teams traded the lead in the final moments before Davis won the game for the Bucs. The girls basketball teams from Grosse Pointe South and University Liggett both celebrated big victories Tuesday night in the state playoffs—and both are headed to the state semifinals later this week in East Lansing. Grosse Pointe South defeated Waterford Kettering 58-54 in a Class A state quarterfinal game at Detroit Mercy on Tuesday. Grosse Pointe South and University Liggett each claimed girls basketball regional championships Thursday night, according to mhsaa.com. Grosse Pointe South defeated Chippewa Valley 69-48 to win a Class A regional championship, and University Liggett defeated Detroit Consortium to take a Class C regional title. Both teams will compete in the state quarterfinals next week. South (21-3 overall) will take on Waterford Kettering on March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at U of D Mercy. University Liggett girls basketball player Madison Ristovski made her decision to play basketball for the University of Michigan official Thursday morning by signing a national letter of intent. Surrounded by her family, coaches, Liggett administriators, teammates and friends, the senior guard sat at a small table beside University Liggett athletic director Michelle Hicks and put her name on the dotted line, thus beginning her career as a basketball player for the University of Michigan.
