The St. Joan of Arc boys basketball team will take the court Saturday for the CYO boys basketball championship.
The St. Joan of Arc boys varsity basketball team will take the court at 3 p.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Prep for the CYO boys basketball championship. The Chargers, the boys eastside champions, will meet Our Lady of Victory, the westside champions, for the title. St. Joan—located in St. Clair Shores near Grosse Pointe Woods—topped undefeated Shrine on Wednesday to earn a spot in the title game. Notre Dame Prep is located at 1300 Giddings Road in Pontiac.

University Liggett’s girls basketball team lost to Morley-Stanwood 61-57 in the Class C state championship game on Saturday in the Breslin Center at East Lansing. Madison Ristovski, who earlier this week was named Michigan’s Miss Basketball by the Detroit Free Press, scored 42 points for University Liggett. Grand Haven defeats Grosse Pointe South 54-53 in Class A girls basketball state championship game.
Grosse Pointe South’s girls basketball team lost a heartbreaker in the state championship. Grand Haven guard Shar’Rae Davis’ basket in the final seconds lifted the Bucs to a 54-53 victory over Grosse Pointe South in the Class A state championship game on Saturday in the Breslin Center at East Lansing. Grosse Pointe South led for much of the game and built a double-digit lead in the third quarter. But Grand Haven rallied to take the lead late in the fourth quarter and the two teams traded the lead in the final moments before Davis won the game for the Bucs. University Liggett is one step away from a girls basketball state championship. The Knights defeated Concord 49-27 in the Class C state semifinals on Thursday at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, according to mhsaa.com. Haleigh Ristovski scored 22 points for University Liggett, according to a story on the MHSAA's Second Half website. With the victory, University Liggett improved its record to 23-4 overall and advanced to the Class C state championship game. Grosse Pointe South and University Liggett both win state quarterfinal games in the girls basketball tournament.
The girls basketball teams from Grosse Pointe South and University Liggett both celebrated big victories Tuesday night in the state playoffs—and both are headed to the state semifinals later this week in East Lansing. Grosse Pointe South defeated Waterford Kettering 58-54 in a Class A state quarterfinal game at Detroit Mercy on Tuesday. Caitlin Moore scored 19 points for South, according to a column by Terry Foster of the Detroit News. With the victory, Grosse Pointe South improved its overall record to 22-3. The girls basketball teams from Grosse Pointe South and University Liggett won regional championships on Thursday.
Grosse Pointe South and University Liggett each claimed girls basketball regional championships Thursday night, according to mhsaa.com. Grosse Pointe South defeated Chippewa Valley 69-48 to win a Class A regional championship, and University Liggett defeated Detroit Consortium to take a Class C regional title. Both teams will compete in the state quarterfinals next week. South (21-3 overall) will take on Waterford Kettering on March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at U of D Mercy. Liggett (21-4 overall) will play Riverview Gabriel Richard on March 13 at 7 p.m. at Milford.

Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South will meet in district semifinal game on Wednesday night at GPN.
Grosse Pointe North High School will host a Class A girls basketball district tournament starting on Monday. In the quarterfinals, St. Clair Shores Lakeview will take on Detroit Denby on Monday at 6 p.m. at GPN. The winner of that game will play East Detroit on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The second semifinal Wednesday will pit Grosse Pointe South against host Grosse Pointe North in a showdown between the two rivals. Standout girls basketball player signs letter of intent with University of Michigan.
University Liggett girls basketball player Madison Ristovski made her decision to play basketball for the University of Michigan official Thursday morning by signing a national letter of intent. Surrounded by her family, coaches, Liggett administriators, teammates and friends, the senior guard sat at a small table beside University Liggett athletic director Michelle Hicks and put her name on the dotted line, thus beginning her career as a basketball player for the University of Michigan.
