2 Residential Burglaries Under Investigation in St. Clair Shores

Two burglaries have been reported in St. Clair Shores in which small valuables were stolen. Both happened on the same night and there are some similarities to the rash of burglaries plaguing Grosse Pointe Shores and Woods since January.

St. Clair Shores police are investigating two burglaries in which small valuables, such as jewelry, laptop computers or other small electronics were taken. At least one of the burglaries is similar in nature to a rash of burglaries happening Grosse Pointe Shores and Woods.  In the St. Clair Shores burglaries, two homes were broken into overnight from March 29 to 30, which was a Friday to a Saturday. In the first case, a resident in the 23800 block of Deziel Street reported returning home about 2 a.m. to find his kitchen window and screen open. He discovered that his house had been searched. He discovered several items missing including jewelry, a small cigar box as well as another small box containing social security cards, a birth …

Burglaries Continue in Grosse Pointe Shores, Woods

Grosse Pointe Shores Department of Public Safety is urging residents to report anything deemed suspicious in the moment rather than waiting, which will be more helpful and have potential to help officers interrupt one of the crimes.

The investigation into a series of burglaries in Grosse Pointe Shores and in Grosse Pointe Woods continues as the list of victims grows. Fingerprint and handprint evidence gathered at the most recently burglarized homes have been sent to the Michigan State Police crime lab. As detectives await the results, which could take a while, they are urging residents in the pair of neighboring cities to be aware of what's happening next door and to report anything suspicious immediately. Detective Lt. Scott Rohr said the key factor in reporting suspicious circumstances is time. Reports made immediately allow officers to potentially interrupt the suspicious activity and determine what exactly is happening, whereas waiting to report something or …

You're right, the possibility of catching perpetrators in the act is slim. However, a more visible police presence on the neighborhood streets instead of only on Vernier and Mack might deter the thieves from attempting anything in the first place.   more ›

Shores Police Chief Offers Tips for Vacation

The Grosse Pointe Shores Director of Public Safety offers a variety of tips to residents in the wake of three burglaries this month in which vacant homes are being targeted.

As the investigation into three home burglaries in Grosse Pointe Shores continues, the Director of Public Safety, John Schulte, offers some tips for residents who may be away from their homes for extended time.  There have been three burglaries police believe are related and have been committed by the same group of people. Shores police have asked residents to call 911 if they see anything suspicious as the suspects are believed to be casing homes during the day and returning at night--focusing on homes where they believe no one is home.  Schulte included a list of recommendations for residents as preventative measures, including: Additionally, Schulte is reminding residents to avoid leaving their cars running and unattended to warm-up on …

Grosse Pointe Shores Police Warn of Burglars

Residents are urged to call 911 if they see anything suspicious after a trio of burglaries Grosse Pointe Shores police believe were committed by the same group of people.

Grosse Pointe Shores police are investigating three burglaries they believe to be related and are asking residents to be on the lookout for anything suspicious. According to a press release issued Monday, three homes in the Shores have been burglarized in January and police believe the same group of people are responsible. In all three crimes, police believe the burglars have been spotted casing homes in the daytime and returning at night.  The burglars have been looking for homes where there appears to be no one home based on activity in the snow and other indicators, according to a press release by Detective Lt. Scott Rohr. They have been spotted approaching homes with a shovel and with a child during the daytime and then the same night …

I agree Bill IV, Frank's link was very helpful It gave a description of what to look out for, specific neighborhoods, and a number to call. In the Patch we were told to call, 911, that is way too extreme to report mere suspicious activity. I was impressed with this new website, I hope in the future they put together a comprehensive crime report with an interactive map in G.P., Thankscandgnews.com…   more ›

Lead in Farms Burglaries Being Pursued

In addition to a small rash of burglaries in Grosse Pointe Farms, there have been two reports in Grosse Pointe Shores involving screen damage to homes but no entry.

The police in the Grosse Pointes are investigating a variety of burglaries that began in late July and continue into August. While there is nothing yet to tie all of the crimes together, investigators believe they may be related. At least one possible lead is being pursued in Grosse Pointe Farms, where investigators believe three recent burglaries are related, Director of Public Safety Dan Jensen said this week. A fingerprint at one of the scenes is being analyzed and investigators are awaiting the results, Jensen said. In the most recent case, Grosse Pointe Farms police were called to a home in the 400 block of Roland Road by the homeowners who discovered their house was burglarized while they were out of town. It is believed to have …

Burglar Enters Homes When Owners Present

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating two burglaries in which owners were home when the crime happened. Police warn residents to lock their doors and windows.

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating two similar burglaries in which a man broke by removing a screen and in both cases the owners were home. Investigators do not yet know if the crimes are related but are warning residents to keep doors and windows locked. In the first case, a resident discovered someone had been in her house after her dog alerted her to it July 28. The resident on Grosse Pointe Court discovered a screen on her backyard upon investigating.  In that case, police believe the dog scared the burglar away from the home. The screen frame was dented in several areas and was taken as evidence for the case. In the other case, a resident chased the man from her home. The owner was downstairs in the living room while …

Farms, City Investigate Wave of Burglaries

The burglars in both cities used the stolen credit cards to purchase gasoline for multiple people at Detroit gas stations for a fee. Detectives are still investigating whether the crimes are related.

Another wave of burglaries in Grosse Pointe Farms and the City of Grosse Pointe are believed to be related but detectives are still investigating. In the City, three residents in the 800 block of Loraine reported valuables missing from their homes early June 13, according to reports.  In one case, the resident discovered his laptop stolen from his home early June 13 and was unsure how the burglar entered the home, according to a report. Similarly, a neighbor also filed a report that her purse was stolen from a kitchen chair. The woman said her husband left the house about 5:30 a.m. for work and when she tried to find her purse shortly after 9 a.m. discovered it was missing. Her husband said he placed it on a kitchen chair but it was not …

Katie, we're in complete agreement. Posse Comitatus aside, I think there is an excellent case to be made for use of martial forces here. Also, I don't have a problem deputizing teachers for the summer and forming some sort of GP border patrol, its time for them to start earning their summer paychecks. Farms Police: Help in 3 Morning Burglaries

The Grosse Pointe Farms police are asking anyone with information to call and anyone who lives in the Lake Shore Road area to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.

Grosse Pointe Farms police are looking for two men who are believed to have broken into at least three homes this morning between 7 a.m. to noon. There are two additional burglaries in the City of Grosse Pointe that may also be related, according to an alert sent to residents shortly after 3 p.m. The men were spotted by a resident who was home working but chose to not answer a knock on the front door, Farms Director of Public Safety Dan Jensen said. Within a few minutes, the resident heard someone walking down his hallway, Jensen said. As soon as the resident let it be known he was home, the men who entered the house ran, Jensen said. One exited through a basement window, which indicates to police he was small in stature because it was a …
