City of Grosse Pointe Police Arrest Woods Man in Early Morning Burglaries

The following information is gathered from the City of Grosse Pointe Public Safety Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A 19-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods man is being held by the City of Grosse Pointe police awaiting arraignment on charges for breaking into two Rivard Boulevard homes early Monday.  Detective Christopher J. Lee said a warrant seeking several charges has been sent to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. He is awaiting their OK to schedule the teen's arraignment before a judge. The charges include two counts of burglary, receiving stolen property and two counts of possession of controlled substances.  A resident in the 800 block of Rivard called police about 5:30 a.m. after waking to his dog barking and finding the front door of his home ajar. While checking out the house, he heard the side door close and ran outside but did not see anyone. …

Police Blotter: Yorkiepoo Attacked by Dog on Walk Treated for 5 Broken Ribs

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating a dog attack on another dog that occurred July 5 about 9:15 a.m. near Higby and Morningside. A 50-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman told police she was walking her two small dogs when she began to cross paths with another woman walking two large black dogs. She said one of the large black dogs broke free from its owner and bit the woman's 1-year-old Yorkiepoo around the head and neck, shaking it violently. The black dog grabbed hold of the woman's other small dog after she was able to free the Yorkiepoo but her second dog did not sustain serious injuries. The Yorkiepoo has five broken ribs and two puncture wounds and is being treated by Michigan Veterinary Specialists. The woman was not able to…

Police in Pointes Help Detroit Arrest Man in Robberies

Grosse Pointe's K9 officer Raleigh helped retrieve a 20-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man wanted in at least two armed robberies from underneath a bed inside a Grosse Pointe Park home over the weekend.  The robberies were committed in Detroit and details of those crimes were not immediately available. Officers from the City of Grosse Pointe as well as Grosse Pointe Park and Detroit converged on a home in the 1000 block of Maryland Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. July 2 after the man ran inside.  Two adults and a child exited the house, according to report, one of whom is the sister of the wanted man. She told police he was the only person inside the home and that he was hiding in the basement. She also told officers she was not sure whether or…

Police Blotter: Teens Arrested in Alcohol Crimes

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested three 18-year-olds July 1 after they crashed a vehicle into a home in the 20 block of Warner Road. The car and the home were damaged in the crash. Responding officers found two of the teens on the lawn of the home and witnesses showed the officers where a third teen ran following the crash. The three men, two from Grosse Pointe Park and one from the City of Grosse Pointe, were each arrested and charged with minor in possession of alcohol. The driver of the vehicle was also charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The driver initially registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 percent on a Breathalyzer test and later a 0.18 percent on the Breathalyzer. The teen who ran from the scene registered a…

Update: Men Arrested in Farms Suspected in More Than 20 Crimes

The men admitted to stealing items from vehicles and stealing a minivan following their arrest. The following information is gathered from the Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Detectives believe the two men arrested by Grosse Pointe Farms overnight are responsible for more than 20 crimes spanning about two weeks, Director Dan Jensen said.  The men were arrested overnight in connection with a series of thefts, according to a release published at 2:26 a.m. Jensen said a patrol officer spotted the men--ages 17 and 18--walking on the street. When he approached and talked with them, they began acting nervous and their stories did not make sense, Jensen said.  They told the officer they did not know each other's last names, where they were or where they were headed, Jensen said. This led the officer to investigate further and during a pat down for weapons, he found several stolen items such as cell phones, Jensen said…

Police Blotter: Officers Aid Boater in Lake St. Clair

Grosse Pointe Park public safety officers helped a 48-year-old Redford Township man whose boat started taking on water in Lake St. Clair June 20 near Windmill Pointe Drive. The man was not injured and he was already securing his 18-foot boat to a break wall when offices arrived. The Windmill Pointe resident called police because he believed the boat to be in distress, Lt. James Smith said. The boat owner planned to arrange for the proper repairs to the boat, Smith said. Crime Interrupted A resident in the 1000 block of Bedford Road called police about 4:30 a.m. June 21 after spotting a man he believed was trying to steal a car. Police Blotter: 2 Cars Stolen Within 24 Hours

City of Grosse Pointe detectives are investigating the theft of two vehicles that happened within 24 hours. In the first case, a 76-year-old woman reported that her 2001 Dodge Caravan was stolen between 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 19 in the 700 block of University Place. In the second case, a 35-year-old man reported that his 2009 Jeep was stolen between 11:30 p.m. June 19 and 9:30 a.m. June 20 from his driveway in the 800 block of Lakeland. The man walked out of his house June 20 to discover his SUV missing. Inside the Jeep, the man had a portable GPS unit, an iPod, a child safety seat, a set of golf clubs and miscellaneous clothing and books, according to a report. Police Blotter: Burning Embers Blamed in Garage Fire

Smoldering embers thrown in the garbage before they were totally out are to blame for a two-car detached garage fire battled by Grosse Pointe Park firefighters June 19. Crews were called to the fire just after midnight June 19 to find flames from the ground crawling up to the eaves, troughs and overhang of the garage. Crews doused the fire, which was in a corner of the garage.  Suspicious Youth Warned Grosse Pointe Park police issued warnings to four Detroit young men ranging in age from 12 to 19 after they were spotted in the backyard of a home in the 700 block of Whittier Road June 15. Police received a suspicious persons report about the youth being in the backyard and responding officers found them walking from the scene. Officers …

Police Blotter: Battery, Theft Under Investigation

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the alleged battery of a 13-year-old by his father after Parcells Middle School officials called June 2 to report a battery on school grounds. School officials told officers the man arrived at the school in a rage, threatened his son repeatedly, choked him and pulled him around by his neck in addition to pinning him against two walls. A school official who tried to intervene was shoved away by the man, according to a report. Theft from Foreclosed Home Investigated Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the alleged theft of about $8,000 worth of home goods and appliances after the maintenance crew of a realty company discovered items missing from a foreclosed home on Hollywood Avenue this …
