A fundraiser has been scheduled at Marge's Bar in Grosse Pointe Park for Tuesday, May 21, 2013, to help raise money for Sabrina Gianino's funeral. She is the Grosse Pointe Park woman whose death was ruled a homicide Friday.
Sabrina Gianino was found dead inside a Grosse Pointe Park duplex Thursday and her death was ruled a homicide by strangulation Friday following an autopsy. Now her friends and family are plannnig a fundraiser for her funeral. The fundraiser is Tuesday, May 21, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Marge's Bar on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Park--just a short distance from Platz Animal Hospital where she was the head receptionist. Donations will go to help pay for Gianino's funeral, said Rachel Douglas via email. Anyone making a $25 donation will receive hotdogs, pop and beer. A Grosse Pointe Shores councilman was arrested Thursday night related to a domestic situation.
Grosse Pointe Shores Mayor Pro-Tem Dan Schulte was arrested Thursday night in connection with a domestic violence call, according to a source close to the investigation. Patch is awaiting a return call from Grosse Pointe Shores Director of Public Safety John Schulte, who is of no relation to Dan Schulte. The source shared with Patch that Dan Schulte was arrested before 8:30 p.m. Thursday. He was hospitalized Friday and an officer has been posted at his hospital door. Dan Schulte has been on the council since April 2009. He has served as the Mayor Pro-Tem since Novmeber 2011. Following an autopsy Friday of a 35-year-old Grosse Pointe Park woman, the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled her death a homicide. Officials are still working to have family identify her to confirm her identity.
The death of a 35-year-old Grosse Pointe Park woman found dead inside a duplex on Wayburn Street Thursday has been ruled a homicide by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office, county spokeswoman Sarah Bazzi said. The autopsy was performed Friday morning. Grosse Pointe Park detectives were present for the autopsy, Park Capt. David Loch said. Additionally, the manner of death was ligature strangulation, Bazzi said. This form of strangulation means her airway was cut off at her neck without being suspended. Grosse Pointe Park police have arrested a 20-year-old man in the early morning firebombing of a lakefront home on Whittier Road, Public Safety Director David Hiller told Patch. The crime appears to be random and was not targeted at the homeowners, Gary and Janet Van Elslander, Hiller told Patch. Gary Van Elslander is the president of Art Van Furniture. Grosse Pointe Woods Director of Public Safety announced plans to participate in the annual campaign enforcing the use of seatbelts in moving vehicles. This year the enforcement focus will begin May 20 and end June 2.
Motorists driving in Grosse Pointe Woods should make sure to be buckled up as the Department of Public Safety prepares to begin its annual participation in the Click It or Ticket campaign. The stepped-up enforcement for seatbelt usage will begin May 20 and continue through June 2, according to a press release issued by Director of Public Safety for the Woods, Andrew Pazuchowski. Law enforcement departments from across the country participate in the campaign aimed at educating motorists about the importance of wearing a seatbelt and being properly restrained in a car. Grosse Pointe Park police arrested an 18-year-old man May 12 following a pursuit that went into Detroit and ended with a crash into a tree. Officers initially stopped the man for an equipment violation on Mack Avenue shortly after midnight. The 18-year-old stopped the Dodge Durango he was driving briefly but then drove away, according to a report. A pursuit ensued on several Detroit streets. During the pursuit, the teen struck a curb and flattened both of the front tires on the SUV. He continued driving however, later crashing into a tree. Neither the 18-year-old man nor were any of his three juvenile passengers injured during the crash, according to a report. All four were detained, according to Park police, near Mack and Ashland. The equipment was taken from a car parked in a driveway in the 1400 block of Maryland. It was locked and the equipment was in the trunk. City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a 28-year-old Detroit man May 7 for domestic battery after his wife reported that he assaulted her on the playground of Maire Elementary School. He called the woman to find out where she was, then came to the school playground. The woman repeatedly refused to give him her cell phone. He grabbed her hair and snapping her neck backward causing her to nearly fall to the ground while taking her phone. She then tried to call 911 from her daughter's cell phone but he took the phone away from her to prevent the call. She got and their children got into her car and left.
