GROSSE POINTE SHORES - On November 7, the Board of Directors, staff members, friends, and supporters of CARE of Southeastern Michigan came together to celebrate the agency's 35th anniversary. But for playwright Kim Carney, of Beverly Hills, Michigan, whose mother passed away from the debilitating disease in 1997, it was a painful experience but also one that created rich moments that made her smile. And like many writers, Carney observed her mother’s life and wrote about it, finding humor, touching moments and cathartic release. This weekend, Carney’s play, Moonglow, a love story inspired by her mother’s experiences with Alzheimer’s will take to the intimate stage of the Purdon Studio Theatre for performances by the cast from Grosse Pointe Theatre. Due to still-pending details, the University of Michigan-Dearborn confirmed that the transfer to the Eleanor and Edsel Ford House will now take place Dec. 31.
The transfer of ownership of the Henry Ford Estate, first announced late last fall, has been delayed once again. The estate, which is located on the campus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn, was closed for major renovations beginning in December 2010. The building and grounds were planned to transfer ownership from the university to the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, located in Grosse Pointe Shores in July.
