Bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade on Friday, Nov. 24 or drop one off at local collection sites.
The holidays are made a little brighter for needy children in southeast Michigan when a new toy is delivered by Toys for Tots--that is the mission of the United States Marine Corps Reserve's program said Staff Sergeant Robert Stoddard, this year's Marine Coordinator. Stoddard is assigned to the 1st Battalion 24th Marines at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. "This year the need is even greater than last year. We're doing our best to help out every needy child," Stoddard said. Stoddard said more donations are needed, however. The 37th annual Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade is the biggest event of the year in the Grosse Pointe area, and the 2012 edition will showcase nearly 100 parade units and community groups! The parade takes place on Friday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. Featured attractions this year include the Ecorse Community , Grosse Pointe North, De La Salle, Harper Woods and Grosse Pointe South High School marching bands; strolling Christmas Carolers; the Shen Yun Christmas Float; the Redford Unicycle Club; The Detroit Fire Department Clowns and dozens of marching units from area organizations. GROSSE POINTE - The Friends of the Grosse Pointe Parade, a nonprofit organization focused on the enhancement of the Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade, is inviting the public to its third annual holiday event. This year’s festivities are scheduled for Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. and will take place at Grosse Pointe Farms Pier Park. The Friends of the Grosse Pointe Parade are partnering with Toys for Tots for the fourth consecutive year, providing multiple opportunities to drop off unwrapped gifts to support children in need.
