Tenley Shield and Lily Pendy lead Blue Devils at state championship golf tournament.
The Grosse Pointe South girls golf team finished fourth at the Division 1 state finals on Saturday at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, according to the MHSAA. Grosse Pointe South finished with a two-day total of 677. Plymouth won the state championship with a 659. Farmington Hills Mercy placed second with a 670, and Utica was third at 672. Top golfers for Grosse Pointe South were Tenley Shield (75-80—155); Lily Pendy (82-75—157); Hanah Buzolits (92-88—180); Kaitlin Dalman (94-91—185); and Katherine Motschall (96-95—191). Ali Scoggin, Madison Vens, Paige Micks, Jenna Paglino and Jordy Parent helped the Grosse Pointe North girls golf team finish third at a Division 2 regional tournament.
The Grosse Pointe North girls golf team finished third at the Division 2 regional tournament on Wednesday at Pontiac Country Club to qualify for the state finals. Grosse Pointe North finished with a four-player score of 376 to place third out of 15 teams at the event. Birmingham Seaholm finished first, and Fenton was second at the regional tournament. Ali Scoggin led GPN with a 90. MAC White MVP Ali Scoggin led the Grosse Pointe North golf team to win the tournament title.
The Grosse Pointe North girls golf team won the MAC White Division tournament on Wednesday at Fore Lakes Golf Club in Kimball Township, according to an email from GPN coach Brian Stackpoole. Ali Scoggin of Grosse Pointe North earned league MVP honors and earned medalist honors at the tournament with a winning score of 79. Paige Micks, Jenna Paglino, and Ali Scoggin also received all-league honors, and Jordyn Parent, Madison Vens and Olivia Benoit all had career low scores. Grosse Pointe North also defeated Fraser on Tuesday to win the MAC White dual-match championship. The girls golf team from Grosse Pointe North is undefeated and has claimed a share of the dual match title in the MAC White Division.
The following information was provided by Grosse Pointe North girls golf coach Brian Stackpoole. The Grosse Pointe North girls golf team is 6-0 in the MAC White 7-0 overall and won a share of the dual match title. The girls recently played Macomb Dakota at Burning Tree Country Club and won the match 189-200. On Tuesday the girls beat Utica Stevenson 186-227 at Lochmoor Club. North is led by senior captains Paige Micks, Jenna Paglino and Ali Scoggin. Blue Devils win Division 1 girls golf state crown at the Meadows at Grand Valley State.

The Blue Devils proved that Saturday after they claimed the Division 1 girls golf state championship at the Meadows at Grand Valley State, according to mhsaa.com. Grosse Pointe South recorded a two-day total of 692 to win by 21 strokes over runner-up Rochester Hills Stoney Creek (713). Tenley Shield led the Blue Devils with a 167. After shooting an 85 in the first round Friday, she followed with an 82 on Saturday. Shield tied for sixth overall. Grosse Pointe South’s Ella Pendy tied for 10th at 174. Grosse Pointe South leads after the first day of the Division 1 girls golf state finals at the Meadows at Grand Valley State, according to mhsaa.com. The Blue Devils posted a four-player score of 348 Friday to lead the 15-team field. Plymouth is in second place and six strokes behind with a 354. Tenley Shield led Grosse Pointe South and is tied for eighth overall with an 85. Other top scorers for the Blue Devils were Ella Pendy (87), Claire Boyle (88) and Lily Pendy (88). The tournament will conclude Saturday.

University Liggett and Grosse Pointe North will compete in state tennis tournament; Grosse Pointe South will play in girls golf finals.
For some high school athletes in Grosse Pointe, this weekend presents a final test in the state championships. University Liggett’s tennis team received a rousing sendoff at a pep rally at the school Thursday before the Knights left for the Division 4 state finals in Jenison on Friday and Saturday. University Liggett, which is No. 3 in Division 4 in the state coaches’ poll, finished third at last year’s state championship. Blue Devils win Division 1 regional tournament at Tanglewood.
The Grosse Pointe South golf team won the Division 1 regional golf tournament on Thursday at Tanglewood in Northville. With the victory, the Blue Devils advance to the state finals next week at The Meadows at Grand Valley State. Claire Boyle led Grosse Pointe South and finished first overall with a 78. Tenley Shield placed second in the tournament with a 79, and Ella Pendy was third with an 80. Lilly Pendy was fifth with an 81, and Hannah Buzolits was 15th with an 88. Grosse Pointe North’s season ended after the Norsemen finished fourth at the Division 2 regional at Heather Highlands. Ali Scoggin led GPN with a 92.

After making numerous demands, the Grosse Pointe Farms City Council unanimously approved a site plan request by the Country Club of Detroit Monday for an expansion that includes the addition of a six-bedroom dormitory for interns, the upgrade of its paddle tennis courts and a new maintenance barn to replace one that burned. Hidden in the discussion is that the club will be one of the first, if not the first, in Michigan to offer intern housing on club grounds.
