State Reps. From Macomb Get Educated on Early Childhood Resources
Several Macomb County State Representatives recently met with Great Start Macomb to learn more about the countless resources available for the 50,000 children under the age of 5 living in Macomb County.
The problem: one in four children under the age of five are living in poverty in Macomb County, there are 57 main languages spoken at homes in the county and more than 50 percent of children not attending a preschool program before entering kindergarten. The solution: Great Start of Macomb, which is part of statewide initiative that supports families and children 0-5 so they can start school ready to learn and succeed. Great Start, which is primarily funded by the state and a number or Michigan-based foundations, was created in 2004 to restructure the state’s investment in children.
