Stolen Prescription Pad Under Investigation in Grosse Pointe Farms

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the fraudulent use of a prescription pad by two people trying to obtain drugs from a pharmacy. A pharmacy employee reported that the prescriptions were not legitimate and police interviewed people from the doctor's office. The doctor said the people trying to obtain the drugs were not his patients. One is from Canton and one is from Ann Arbor. They reported to a pharmacy employee that the prescription pad had been given to them by the doctor's son. The doctor said it wouldn't surprise him because he had previously gotten in trouble for such an offense that was expunged from his record. $25K in Jewelry Reported Stolen in Grosse Pointe Farms

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the theft of $25,000 worth of jewelry from a Rose Terrace home in which the homeowner told police she believes a man she hired as a contractor is responsible. The 77-year-old woman reported the theft to police April 27 after the contractor showed back up to her house earlier than scheduled and she confronted him about the missing jewelry. The man left and she called police. The responding officer saw the man leaving but the woman did not report that he was leaving. The woman reported that she hired the man to do some updating projects in her house and he had done painting inside and outside April 25. After he left, she noticed the jewelry was missing. Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro personally ordered Timothy Tracy’s arrest on suspicion of inciting violence in the country.

A 35-year-old California filmmaker with ties to Grosse Pointe was arrested by Venezuelan authorities on suspicion of inciting post-election violence on behalf of the United States. President Nicolas Maduro said last week he personally ordered Timothy Hallet Tracy’s arrest for allegedly inciting violence in Venezuelan cities. Venezuela's interior minister accused the American of working for U.S. intelligence by paying right-wing youth groups to hold violent protests in order to destabilize the country after Maduro's narrow election win this month, according to The Associated Press. Teen Released Pending Further Investigation

The Grosse Pointe South High School student removed Wednesday for a tweet related to a bomb during Rick Santorum's speech has been released from police custody pending further investigation.

The 17-year-old Grosse Pointe South junior under investigation stemming from a tweet mentioning a bomb he sent yesterday during Rick Santorum's speech to more than 1,000 students has been released from police custody.  The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has returned the warrant request to the Grosse Pointe Farms police to complete further investigation, spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office Maria Miller said Friday.  Meanwhile, the teen was released shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, Grosse Pointe Farms Detective Lt. Wayne County Prosecutor Reviewing Bomb Tweet Case

The Grosse Pointe South High School student taken away from the school Tuesday after he tweeted a statement referring to a bomb and Rick Santorum remains in police custody while the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office reviews the case.

The 17-year-old Grosse Pointe South student who sent a tweet with the word bomb in it Wednesday during Rick Santorum's speech at the high school remains in police custody as the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office reviews the case.  Grosse Pointe Farms Detective Lt. Richard Rosati said the teenager was cooperative with police from the time he was removed from the school and he told detectives the tweet was an attempt to make a joke related to the scale of attention Santorum's speech and visit had been given.  The teen's parents allowed Farms police to search their house without a search warrant Wednesday, Rosati said. The search was done to determine whether the student had books, materials or other items related to making bombs, he said.  …

Village Ace Celebrates Grand Opening on Mack

Following a soft opening in January, the owners of Village Ace celebrated their official grand opening Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a week's worth of specials.

About six months after purchasing a new building, investing about $500,000 in the renovation and having a soft-opening in January, Village Ace on Mack Avenue is celebrating its grand opening this weekend.  The new location, 18165 Mack Ave., is on the former Lochmoor Chrysler lot. Village Ace moved to Mack Avenue from the Village of Grosse Pointe, where it had been located for years at the corner of Kercheval Avenue and St. Clair Street.   Owners Shelli and Mark Elmer thanked a variety of people who helped in the move including their employees, their attorney, the family from whom they bought the building and more. Dozens of people joined them Friday in celebrating the store's grand opening, which was kicked off with a ribbon-cutting …

Security Plans Established for Santorum Visit

Officials from the Grosse Pointe Public School System and Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety have established a security plan for the upcoming visit by Rick Santorum at Grosse Pointe South High School.

Grosse Pointe South High School will essentially be on a heightened level of security beginning Tuesday in preparation for the visit by Rick Santorum Wednesday, who will adress students about leadership and service, Grosse Pointe Farms Departemnt of Public Safety Director Dan Jensen said Friday. Officials from the school district and Jensen met this week to discuss the upcoming visit. Jensen said the gymnasium will undergo heavy scrutiny with a K9 search early Wednesday. The area will then be secured in prepartion for Santorum's arrival for the 12:45 p.m. assembly. Two officers will be stationed in the building close to the gymnasium simply as a way to keep the department informed about what's happening inside the building, Jensen said. …
